Zedd - "True Colors" (Album Review)
I thought I already published a review of this NEW Zedd record, "True Colors" (released May 18, 2015). However, when looking back I saw that I posted an album PREVIEW before the LP was ever released. It's a great, up-beat, sophomore album by this popular, heart-throb, German DJ - Anton Zaslavski (stage name ZEDD). He has a very non-traditional style of house music, especially on this album. It's not fast-paced dub step music like you would find on his first album. In fact, this new record reminds me a lot of RATATAT and sounds very different from his first album, "Clarity" (released in 2013). There is much more singing and soft melodies included on this new album, instead of his usual house/ dub-step instrumentals. Unfortunately, "True Colors" is NOT as good as "Clarity".
However, there are some really cool songs on this new album, including the single "Addicted to a Memory", "Papercut", "Daisy", "Bumble Bee", and "Straight Into The Fire". The album has female vocals on almost every song and features many different artists, including Selena Gomez. Overall, it's a fun and positive sounding "electro-pop" record, I give "True Colors" a 6/ 10.
I will post one or two of his new songs on here, you MUST check out "Papercuts" - it's an awesome song with a big build up and climactic melody / chorus that Zedd describes as "cinematic feeling" (it's over 7 min long).
