Grouplove- "Spreading Rumours" Album Review

Grouplove is an awesome, fast-rising indie/ pop band from Los Angeles, CA. that has caught the attention of critics and fans alike with their debut singles, "Tongue Tied" and "Colours". Both are fun, up-tempo songs and just as good as the other tracks on their 2011 debut album, "Never Trust a Happy Song". It's an ironic album title, because the vast majority of the songs on the album are fun and happy. I would compare their sound to Foster the People, The Kooks, and Modest Mouse. This first album is fantastic and full of great songs, I love this record - I give it a 8 /10.

The 2nd album, "Spreading Rumours" is not nearly as good, but it's not necessarily bad either - they changed their musical style on the new record and it actually came out pretty good. We have seen so many indie bands release terrible sophomore albums after the debut record was a huge success. It's usually because the band goes in a different direction musically instead of sticking to the format that worked in the first place.

Grouplove did the same thing with their second album; "Spreading Rumors", released in 2013. There is a couple good songs / singles on this record, like; "Ways To Go", "Shark Attack", and "Didn't have to go",. I would compare the musical style on this record to Fleet Foxes and/or The Go Find. It's a much darker and slower album but not bad... I give it a 5 /10.

And I HIGHLY recommend checking out Grouplove if you're an indie-pop fan! (Interesting fact: they do the ending credits music for the show "BoJack Horseman")
