"Community" Season 5

O

I thought season 5 of "Community" was going to be the series finale. However, the series doesn't  come to a conclusive end in the finale. In fact, there is slight foreshadowing of a romantic connection between "Jeff" and "Annie", but nothing comes of it. I just figured losing 2 cast members in one season would kill the show off. Not to mention, there has been near cancellations in the past and at one point; we were all unsure if "Community" would even come back for a 4th season. The goal is "six seasons and a movie", so there are rumors that the remaining cast members will return for a final season and maybe "Annie" and "Jeff" will finally get together.

This season was pretty cool, it had a lot of themed parody episodes that "Community" is known for doing. That's actually my favorite aspect of this series. Season Five includes another "Dungeons and Dragons" episode, a campus-based social media craze episode, a Nicholas Cage episode where "Abed" loses his mind (again), a "Zodiac"-themed episode about the "Ass Crack Bandit", an episode where the whole school plays a game of 'the ground is hot lava' in a parody of "Mad Max", and a completely animated "GI Joe" episode. Unfortunately, my favorite character, "Troy" leaves the show and he's only in 4 episodes this season. The actor, Donald Glover, left to pursue his rap career full time. Chevy Chase also left the show and was very vocal about how unhappy he was playing the role of "Pierce". So they added a new character -"Professor Hickey", played by Jonathan Banks (from "Breaking Bad"). Also, "Chang" and "The Dean" both have a much more involved role with the "study group" to compensate for the loss of two characters.

This season was all about "Saving Greendale" and it ends with a two-part finale about saving the school from being sold and closed. I wouldn't mind a sixth season, but for the most-part, I am done with this show. It's lost most of it's momentum and unique charm, it's not as funny anymore.
