NEW "Fantastic 4" - Review

This "Fantastic 4" movie re-boot was much needed after the original trilogy was hated by "Marvel" fans and critics alike. The original trilogy started in 2005 and it was poorly casted and G-rated. Jessica Alba played "Sue Storm", which was cool, but Ioan Gruffudd was terrible choice "Reed Richards" (which made it harder to buy into the story). Not to mention. "Thing" looked stupid and small in the original franchise. Now, 10 years later, with the help of CGI animation; "Thing" looks much different and much bigger in this New "Fantastic 4" franchise. He looks more realistic and more like the comic book version, instead of wearing a cheesy "Thing" costume and make-up. He even sneaks in his famous "It's clobbering time!" line in this movie.

It's obviously a set-up movie for the sequel that's set to release July 9, 2017, so there's not a whole lot of action sequences. This movie just covers all the background info and shows how these 4 individuals came together to form a super hero team. Just like in the comic books, "The Fantastic 4" are all scientists that mutated in different ways in a freak lab accident. The unknown actor, Jamie Bell, was a terrible casting choice to play "Ben Grimm". The Scottish actor is completely incapable of pulling off an American accent! So, he inexplicably has a Scottish accent until he turns into "Thing". On the other hand, British actor, Toby Kebbell; does a perfect American accent and he is the perfect casting choice for the villain, "Dr. Doom". Miles Teller was also a great casting choice to play "Reed Richards" as the leader / genius one in the group, just like he was in the comic book series. Michael Jordan plays "The Human Torch" so Chris Evans no longer plays the part of "Captain America" AND the "Human Torch" (which always bothered me). Michael Jordan and Miles Teller also starred together in the 2013 movie - "That Awkward Moment".

This is a brand new team of four young, and unfamiliar actors. I was surprised to see "Dr. Doom" is now played  by Toby Kebbell (from "RocknRolla"). However, "Dr. Doom" looks way more bad-ass and evil now! Critics hated this movie, but I see it for what it is - it's a set-up movie for the sequel, which I'm sure will have much more action and fighting. This movie covers all the boring stuff and has a couple actin scenes so that the sequel will be even better. So, I give this new "Fantastic Four" a  4/ 10
